Yoga

At the Lotus Retreat we run daily yoga classes with a variety of styles and approaches including Vinyasa Flow, Ashtanga, Yin, Pregnancy and Meditation. Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced yogi there is something for everyone. Just pop in and we will discuss your needs and the best class for you, or contact your teacher directly to find out more.

We like to call yoga at the Lotus Retreat “luxury yoga” because of the beauty of the space (always warm, candlelit and filled with aroma of natural oils) and the nurturing attention you will receive. During the summer the patio doors can be opened onto the courtyard offering light and air. You are welcome to stay and browsing our India boutique or enjoy a treatment after your class. Many people enter our shala and become aware of the “energy” of the space, we only use our shala for spiritual practice and it’s energy is regularly cleansed. We are very pleased to be enabling our community to achieve balance of mind, body and soul through the ancient practice of yoga at this transitional time. It has never been more important for us to be looking after ourselves, stay grounded and find connection and community. Whenever the weather allows we open our large patio doors to let in plenty of fresh air. We encourage you to bring your own mat and if this isn’t possible we have mats and mat sanitiser available.

Catherine Bailey

Catherine offers Mindful Yoga classes and courses at The Lotus Retreat.  Mindful Yoga is the integration of Hatha yoga and mindfulness meditation into a single practice. Catherine's classes include strengthening the body and promoting wellbeing, including mind/body awareness, relaxation and nurturing inner peace. Catherine is passionate about natural, holistic health and wellbeing and inspires a mindful lifestyle.

Mindful Asana Classes: (Monday 9.30 - 10.30 am and beginners 6.00 - 7.00 pm)

Mindful Asana focused yoga class strengthens and creates movement and flow in the body. With breath and body awareness, we mindfully move, stretch and energise. The class includes sun salutations, standing and seated asana and final relaxation, Savasana/yoga nidra. Suitable for practising yogis in the morning and beginners at 6pm.

Mindful Well Woman Class: (Thursday 6.00-7.00 pm)

A women's wellness class specifically designed to relax and unwind the mind and body. This class offers mindful practices of yoga, meditation and breathing techniques to soothe and rebalance, to reduce stress and anxiety and restore calm. A class suitable for all women offering a place to nurture inner peace, while at the same time strengthening and grounding.

Mindful Balance class: (Saturday 9.30 - 10.30 am and 11.00 - 12.00 pm)

New for 2023! Saturday mornings classes are designed to uplift and improve your wellbeing by strengthening mental, physical and emotional health and creating balance in a natural, holistic way. Mindful Balance also promotes inner peace, helping you to calm the mind and body.

Hari Lambani

Hari grew in south India where he was fortunate enough to experience yoga and a deep sense of spirituality as part of his daily life. His self practice deepened when he went through a time of great change and uncertainty in his life and he found yoga to be a wonderful gift to reclaim clarity of mind, body and soul. He undertook his yoga teacher training in the holy town of Gokarna with eminent teacher Hari Pawally where he focused on the ancient system of Hatha and also Ashtanga. Hari is passionate about all aspects of yoga - including pranayama (breathwork), meditation and spiritual awareness. Hari’s classes are infused with fun and acceptance: he welcomes everyone to start or continue their yoga journey with him.

Holly Lane

Hollie is currently on maternity leave but will be back at the Lotus offering classes soon. Read on to find out more about what Hollies classes are all about.

Hollie has been practicing yoga since 2010, finding the practice invaluable in deepening her connection to self and providing grounding during challenging times in her life.  

Hollie undertook teacher training in Hatha, Yin and Ashtanga yoga with Arohan Yoga School based in Rishikesh.  She believes that choosing a practice to complement your needs is key to finding balance with your emotional, physical and spiritual health.

Hollie’s Yin Yoga class is for all abilities including beginners, designed to develop mindfulness and joint mobility, calm the nervous system and still the mind. When you join Hollie’s class you will learn a deep appreciation and respect for your body and mind, nurturing self-love and acceptance on your individual yogic journey.

If you are feeling over stimulated, overworked, tired or craving energy join Hollie for Yin yoga. Our world bombards us with stimuli, keeping our minds constantly busy, the stillness we create in Yin yoga gives us time to process these stimuli and release any emotions we are often unconsciously holding in a safe, supportive environment. 

Hollie’s class will focus on flows of complementary, grounding poses which both stimulate and remove blockages in the myofascial meridians of the body, balancing the body’s internal organs and systems.  Passive stretching with relaxed muscles gently lengthens and strengthens connective tissues and lubricates joints helping you to build a mobile body for now and the future.

Sheryl Pratt

Sheryl works with people with health conditions by teaching them how to slow everything down, learn how to listen to their body's whispers, experience relief from their symptoms & find calm & balance whatever their circumstances.

Sheryl has been teaching yoga since 2018 & practicing since the early 2000's. As a qualified Yoga Therapist she draws on the wisdom of yoga & western science to support her students & clients to achieve physical, emotional & mental balance.

It was in her early 20’s that she first discovered the healing potential of yoga. Battling extreme stress, anxiety, depression & a non-existent work life balance. The philosophy, meditation, self-study & mindful movement helped her to create a roadmap for herself to navigate these challenges & find balance in the chaos she was experiencing. 

Sheryl's classes are gentle & offer a slower approach to yoga. Each class combines conscious movement, with breath work, relaxation & meditation or a Yoga Nidra. 

Sheryl also offers 1:1 Yoga Therapy sessions (See Yoga Therapy Page for details) & Therapeutic workshops at The lotus Retreat.

Therapeutic & Restorative Yoga - Friday mornings from 6th October 2023 - £12.50 per class or £44 for a 4-week class pass.
